Besides photography, Karim enjoys composing and playing ambient music. His music is highly influenced by the golden age of Egyptian cinema which spanned over 20 years; from 1940 till 1960. This era was greatly shaped by major events like the monarchy ruling, colonialism, the second world war and the postcolonial age.
Karim employs vintage and electro-mechanical synthesisers along with reverberation and delay effect pedals to set different moods for his compositions.
